I Can’t Get It Up!

Not much going on today with making progress in my step towards health.  I ate tacos for lunch and spent more time pacing than accomplishing. However, I did manage to take my vitamins for the 10th day in a row.

Then after having a quick moment of semi inspiration,(perhaps a result of the vitamin rush) I found time to squeeze out another boring video. I suppose in the grand scheme of my life, I could consider this an accomplishment.

I’d also like to take a quick moment to thank you for watching and visiting my blog. My life isn’t exciting and to know others are willing to set aside a few moments to listen to me ramble or write some crazy thing or the other… means so very much.

Steven, however “mundane” the subject, good writing is always a treat to read. I look forward to your blog, and your unique points of view!

    • Steven says:

The door was first closed down on a car bumper and bent it, so I had to open and close it manually. Recently, the string mechanism at the top finally snapped preventing the door from opening at all. It will cost about a grand to have it replaced.

I hope that over time you find the solace that you need. I suffer anxious “bouts” too, but mine is self-induced because I always want to do and/or somehow BE better (at work, home, just it life), but day by day, I’m learning to do my best to do and be better than I was before.

And late forties isn’t “older”. It’s “more distuinguished” :) Hope the garage door gets fixed soon!

    • Steven says:

Thanks for stopping by my blog, Eric. I’m starting to believe that anxiety is a normal part of the human condition, some have more than others perhaps. I too create more self-induced anxiety than is necessary….that’s what I am working on.

The garage door is a real pain, but only because it’s an inconvenience to plan the installation of a new one….well, that and the cost. However, I am lucky to have a garage door to replace…many don’t even have cars!

    Hi Steve…

You look very healthy to me… I guess it is a matter of perspective… from my perspective you are a very healthy man…. when it comes to health mine has gone down hill fast in the past few years… my world is getting smaller and smaller… and my abilities are getting less and less…so it is a matter of perspective…. I am thankful that I still have the ability to walk and that is waning fast…. but life is still great… I am alive and I can still take pictures, I rely on my hubby to take me out to do so but I can still do it…. I am refocusing my abilities and I am setting up my sewing room to start to quilt again…. and have that as a creative outlet…

Yes health, like everything else is a matter of perspective… and from my perspective…you are a good looking, healthy man, with a good life, a partner who loves you, and a mom who is still alive and in your life… you have a beautiful house and a creative mind and the ability to make others laugh…. your friends are here for you and one day your love for yourself will come back and life will look good again from your perspective….

Have a wonderful day…and don’t sweat the small stuff…and my dear it is all small stuff in the big picture of life….

    Have a wonderful day….

    Janice

    • Steven says:

Perspective is so different through each persons eyes…you are so right. Thanks for the compliment and in the bigger picture I am healthy in comparison to some, but I am noticing changes and my goal is to prevent something from going wrong too soon. Realistically, that is all any of us can do, because if the body wants to fall apart….it’s going to fall apart.

Surprisingly, the garage door breaking, generated zero stress for me. The old Steve (a month ago. lol) would have obsessed over it, worried over the repair cost and not relaxed until it was fixed. The new Steve said….”well, at least it’s winter and the sun wont bake the paint off my car and I don’t have to bother manually raising that damn door anymore!”

  5. Kathy says:

    Hi Steve!

I see that you have found ways to get stronger in the legs……pacing is good and builds muscles! Trying to open that garage door up, which you did manage to do be it 12″, builds biceps and…..wears off calories. I think your getting healthy plan is working just fine *L*

Pssst hate to tell you that Kristine is right about the vitamins. Did you know that Americans are ODing on them? All our food is enriched with vitamins. Know why multi-vitamins were created? During the depression people were poor and not eating right. That’s when the multi was created to stop people from getting ill due to lack of certain vitamins. Since all our food is enriched with them now, taking a multi with all those foods makes one OD on vitamins which can make people sick and cause other health issues.

    Just sharing :-)

    • Steven says:

Although I appreciate your and Kristine’s view on vitamin supplements, every ‘body’ is different and mine has always responded very well to them. Granted, only a small percentage is absorbed into the body, but that small percentage does make a difference in how I feel physically. Besides, at this point we have not reached the goal of only eating the healthiest of foods…so to forgo a balance of vitamins until then, would be foolish.

Vitamin supplements can be beneficial and my mother is an example. She was having a difficult time maintaining a healthy B12 level and her doctor suggested a supplement…upon her followup visit for blood work (after taking the vitamin daily for 6 months) her levels were perfect and have stayed that way ever since.

The most important thing we can do for ourselves is understand our own bodies…what works and what doesn’t. A doctor once told me that by paying close attention to how our body responds to ‘living’ is the best preventive medicine because we are then better able to adjust, fix and change things before it’s too late. Plus, what is good for one person can be detrimental to another…so my point is – Listen to yourself and do what is best for your body type.

I have been taking my vitamins daily for two weeks and I definitely feel a positive difference…I absolutely recommend it!

      • Well, you said it yourself S. It is to do with diet. It is all there in our diets…short cuts do not have the same effect ..you lack the fibre etc…but …hey ..look …the pharma folk will love you to bits as they lie with a glass of champers on their flash yachts haha..Your mother is elderly…B12 is often good for older folk.
(I meant to say above ..it’s all there in our FOOD…but you can’t delete here unless you delete all the way back !)

  6. Jim says:

    A vague sense of anxiety.

Las Vegas has the highest percentage of upside down homes, with the largest collapse of the housing market.

It subsists using water from an ever decreasing supply from Colorado, wasting untold gallons on resorts.

Lake Mead could dry up by 2021.

Gambling has been known to destroy economies, producing nothing of value and exploiting the poor.

Drinking to solve problems is a cornerstone of Las Vegas life.

    And Obama signed the NDAA…

And the climate change is now on steroids…

There are places to volunteer in Vegas….

Or you could post an Xtube of your spring problem.
    Cruise men, not missiles!

So in other words, it’s not vague anxiety if there really is something happening that could harm you. And one can then either do nothing, or do something.

I hope that puts the garage door in perspective.

    • Steven says:

The housing market is on the rebound here in Las Vegas because the price per home has reached a record low…the only trouble is in getting the banks to accept a bid in a timely fashion. The ‘For Sale’ signs that once covered vast neighborhoods, here in the desert, are disappearing at a steady rate and for that I am thankful.

Lake Mead, where our water comes, has risen 100 feet or more in the last year, mostly due to Utah and Colorado releasing it’s stock pile. Many of the large resorts on the strip purchase their water from other out-of-state sources (to fill ponds, pools and run water features) The golf courses are required to do the same and/or use recycled water to keep there greens green. Car washes are required to recycle their water and if a resident is caught washing their car in the driveway it comes with a hefty fine. Plus, residential lawns have been replaced with desert landscaping by the hundreds of thousands.

As for “Drinking to solve problems is a cornerstone of Las Vegas life.” That simply isn’t true. There are over a million people living in Las Vegas and it’s surrounding county, many of which are responsible families forging out a better life. The percentage of alcoholics is no different here than in any other metropolis.

This city was built on gambling, but has grown into something bigger than that. Also, poor people don’t gamble…where would they get the money? I may be sick of living in Vegas because I have been here for 30+ years, but I also will defend the city against the ridiculous reputation it is unfairly given by those who see it from the outside. Every city has it’s negative effect on people…take Seattle for example, it still holds the title of suicide capital of the country…

Climate change….well, the world has always changed it’s climate, it’s the natural order of things and what makes it different today is politics and big business. Politicians use it as a means to get elected and business uses it as a way to sell new products. Go back to the American ‘dust bowel’ in the early 1900′s or further back to the mini Ice Age Europe experienced just two centuries ago. The earth will change and will continue to do so….with or without humans.

  7. Revised version :
    Good Morning Stephano

    • Steven says:

Oh but Kristine, the vitamins have made me feel better,(I agree that food is the best nutrition) but we have not managed to create the ‘health’ menu as of yet. I have taken vitamin supplements for most of my adult life and it is only when I stop that I notice my energy levels dropping. The supplements should never be used as a replacement for food though.

  9. Allister says:

I really understand it. REALLY. It just happens to me sometime. I always feel like there is something I have to do. But there never is. As for the garage door…mechanic stuff..ARRGGHH!

    • Steven says:

Life is so strange…we are all different, yet feel the same emotions. In reality, I should consider myself extremely fortunate to have the life I have (I do appreciate it) yet my mind, at times, feels restless.

  10. angela says:

I haven’t felt relaxed for some time… I am doing so many doubles…. I think I am on 16 days of doubles… so no relaxation for me for a while… love ya steve

    • Steven says:

We are on opposite ends of the spectrum, Ang. You are working to much and I am not working at all. Each has it’s down side. For me, all the free time has made me feel a bit alienated from the rest of the world and has played havoc on my self esteem.

  11. Steve says:

Poor thing in the north with all that snow. So glad to have short winters here too.

    • Steven says:

We have been extra lucky this year in the desert. The temps have been so unbelievably mellow…it’s almost been like a 5 month spring. However, come late January and February it can get pretty damn cold here…and windy! It is still better than snow and ice though. I shouldn’t be so snarky about my good weather, but I just cannot help myself! haha

  12. Darren Gaudry says:

My air condition stays on most the time, I just adjust the temp… :)

    • Steven says:

I do the same thing, Darren. I love the car air conditioning…it’s the one place in which we can create the most perfect temperature.
